NEW VIDEO: 50 Years of Hip-Hop

Chapter ThreeJanuary 24, 2024

Last year we celebrated 50 years of Hip Hop in true Boomtown style.

Over the last 15 years, we’ve hosted some of the biggest names in the genre as well as the best up-and-coming talent.

To celebrate half a century of one of the most innovative musical movements, DMC joined us on Grand Central to hold their UK mixing championships. We had some legends of the turntables as well as breaking stars kicking off Grand Central on the Friday of the festival. Here are some words from our head of programming about this year.

“Hip-hop has always been an important part of Boomtown. As the world celebrated fifty years of hip-hop last year, we celebrated the influential genre with a takeover on Grand Central.

Big ups to all the artists who made this special day happen! Thanks to DMC and Technics for collaborating with us to celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop in true Boomtown style. And finally, a special mention goes out to SMB Bookings for helping curate the amazing lineup. Long live Hip-Hop!”

We were also joined by the top names in the genre Loyle Carner and Cypress Hill. Whether you missed out or want to relive the action, check out our 50 Years of Hip-Hop video below.
